Mustachio Rides Again Sept 19th

Posted on Oct 15, 2009

Stamping his iconic mustache across the land, LCAD Alumnus Cody Lusby (class of 2000) has evolved from his classically trained roots into Mustachio – a brush-wielding renegade who takes risks, fears nothing, and rides with no saddle.

Some say Mustachio is Cody’s alter ego. In fact, the stark contrast between the artist’s humble, soft-spoken nature and his in-your-face work is hard to miss. Mustachio’s latest endeavor, CrazyLand, is defined by talent, technique and a mélange of mixed media (think borrowed road signs), resulting in vibrant, controlled chaos.

CrazyLand makes its Orange County debut Saturday, September 19th at Art from the Hive. The exhibit’s opening will feature signature apparel, live music, a DJ and treats from the Mustachio Artistry Bakery. And since the 19th is September’s third Saturday, the entire community will be out and about celebrating the monthly Santiago Street Art Walk.

CrazyLand will be available for private viewing from September 21 through October 16. The October 17 Santiago Street Art Walk will mark its closing exhibition.

Opening Reception Saturday, July 18, 2009!

“An artist can, whenever he or she feels like it, take things to a new level. In fact, this urge to challenge themselves and push the creative envelope is often nagging away at their brain. The question is, will the artist choose to listen or not? Will they take the plunge? Will they risk failure? Will they take their art to the extreme…?”

On Saturday July 18, 2009  the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art will be hosting an opening reception at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, for the exhibition “LA to OC - emphasis:EXTREME”. This exhibit brings ten of the downtown Los Angeles art galleries to the OC to exhibit works of art from select artists. The galleries exhibiting are:

Bert Green Fine Art

Crewest Gallery
Deborah Martin Gallery

Hive Gallery

Integrated Circuits Gallery
Los Angeles Center for Digital Art
Museum Of Neon Art

Phyllis Stein Art

Alu, brings together emerging, mid career and tenured artists with a common emphasis: each is committed to taking their art and creative process to a unique imaginative level. Ben Brough at Curbside, Aaron Kraten at Nueu Transit Studio Sat. June 20th from 7pm-11pm

Posted on Jun 11, 2009

Summertime at the Santiago Art District is always a great time and we are always promoting our gallery like crazy but this month we don’t want to be so self-serving. We want to highlight Curbside Gallery and Neue Transit Studio our favorite neighboring galleries. See below for details. Also swing by Art from the HIVE, we have new t-shirts and 20 new one-of-a-kind hats painted by artist Rene Cardona.  Oh yeah and the infamous twittering 1-to-3 hour wait in line Kogi taco truck will be here too.

Ben Brough’s Press Release:

A nomadic, roaming upbringing aided in the development of California born, Big Island raised artist Ben Brough who is showing his work titled; “No Offense God, But You Made Me Wrong” on Saturday, June 20th at the Curbside Gallery in Santa Ana, CA. Brough’s style was molded over the course of a life spent bouncing between Southern California, Hawaii’s Big Island and Santa Cruz where his early influences including punk rock, corporate branding, and consumerism run amok.  As an early contributer to the creative direction of the Orange County based Volcom Inc. Brough’s influence can be seen widely today throughout much of the action sports world, however the artists remains completely independent in thought and execution of his work. His new collages will be on display at Curbside Gallery promises to inspire the acceptance of changing the way we look and feel, both mentally and physically, through food, sex surgery and consumerism.

This show is not to be missed.

Wii-hodown-showdown aftermath

Posted on May 18, 2009

What a night!  Thank you to all who attended and made the monthly Santiago Art District Art Walk the most successful yet!  We also need to thank all of the new artists and bands that exhibited/performed throughout the district.  After landing the front page of Yahoo and MSNBC news last week the Kogi BBQ taco truck was a sight to be seen with the line about 250 ”kojites” deep for 3 hours straight.  They must have fed a thousand before they ran out of food at about 9:30pm.  I wish I had the patience to wait it out, the smell coming from that truck was making me hungry to say the least.  I heard many people that didn’t get food ran off to Lola Gaspar down the street to get their taco fix.  The Wii-hodown-showdown went off without a hitch, with resident artist Justin Boatright taking the coveted trophy, (that is on display inside the AftH ART from the HIVE gallery) with a sneaky come from behind win!  Who knows, maybe next month on June 20th we’ll all feel like rock stars….. we’ll see.

SATURDAY! SATURDAY! SATURDAY! - MAY 16TH 2009 - 7pm to 10pm

As my lame high school prom was titled “A Night to be Remembered” this night actually will be one to remember.  If you thought the Kogi taco truck that is coming was exciting or the live bands and DJs throughout the 20 or so art galleries in the Santiago Art District you must stop by ART from the HIVE to view the battle of the century.

J-Boat vs. B-Muse.

1 hundred foot Wii tennis court - 1 battle - 1 challenge - 1 pursuit - 2 birthdays - 1 shattered ego…

BE THERE…  Winner plays next in line, we will set it up tournament style and winners will leave with prizes.

TENNIS THEME : WE WILL ALSO DO SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR ANYONE ELSE THAT IS WILLING TO EMBARASS THEMSELVES AND DRESS UP IN FULL TENNIS THEME OUTFITS JUST AS WE ARE.
